Writing A Top-Quality 8th Grade Narrative Essay: Basic Tips

Narrative essays provide various wide-ranged topics and information to the readers. When talking about such writing, we are talking about descriptions that been given from a viewpoint of a single person who is essentially an omniscient narrator. Such an author decides the topic, the context of the writing and makes assumptions based on his own desires. The writer’s desire to persuade readers of his viewpoint can be gauged from the way things are presented in the writing although there is no overt argument toward any direction.

At the center of this type of writing is the action (an event) - that’s the main difference between the narrative writing and an illustrative style. Illustrative essay describes our reactions on certain events, while the narrative story provides a deeper insight about the concrete event.

Students of the 8th grade can be considered as writers that are able to produce some fine assignments of this type. They are no longer children in a complete sense of the word – they’re the leaders of a new age and they’re ready to write about some important elements of living.

  1. Make sure that the work seems realistic and age appropriate. Write about the things that you experience every day. Describe a confrontation provoked by getting a bad mark on a test. Showcase a situation during which you’ve felt endangered or threatened. Write about an argument with your parents caused by the excessive usage of a smart phone or the Internet. Maybe you remember a certain friendship that didn’t go as well as was planned. Share the details about the direction of your further education.
  2. Consult with your teacher or with a friend that’s able to help you. Of course, parents can also be involved during the decision making.
  3. Check for great examples of narrative writing in textbooks and manuals. Seeing a good example brings writing to a whole new level and inspires a lot of ideas.
  4. Discover and nurture your own distinctive style of writing. Don’t be afraid of your own unique way of expression. Just because it seems a little bit different from the basic writing level, it doesn’t mean that it’s not good enough. To the contrary – it could be the start of something amazing. Remember, all the great authors started out as kids that used words on an individual way.
